What is Kojic acid?
Kojic acid, also known as Aspergillus acid and kojic acid, is a Skin whitening material melanin-specific inhibitor, which can complexate with copper ions in skin cells, change the three-dimensional structure of tyrosinase and prevent the activation of tyrosinase, to inhibit the formation of melanin. Kojic acid whitening agents have better tyrosinase inhibition than other whitening agents. It does not act on other enzymes in the cell, there is no toxic effect on the cell, while it can also enter the cell matrix, the formation of intercellular glia, play a water retention and increase the role of skin elasticity. At present, it has been added into various cosmetics to make whitening cosmetics for freckles, age spots, pigmentation and acne. Kojic acid also has the function of scavenging free radicals, enhancing cell vitality, preserving food color and so on, and is widely used in the fields of medicine and food.
Function
1, applied in the field of cosmetics. In human skin, tyrosine is catalyzed by tyrosinase to synthesize melanin through complex oxidation and polymerization with oxygen free radicals. Kojic acid can inhibit the synthesis of tyrosinase, so it can strongly inhibit the formation of skin melanin, and it is safe and non-toxic, and will not cause leukoplakia sequelae, so Kojic acid has been added to make-up water, mask, lotion, skin cream, made can effectively treat freckles, age spots, pigmentation, acne and other high-grade whitening cosmetics. Kojic acid at a concentration of 20 ug/ml inhibited 70-80% activity of various tyrosinases, or Polyphenol oxidase PPO, and 0.5-2.0% was generally added to cosmetics Whitening Ingredient. 2. Food Processing. Kojic acid can be used as Food Additive, play a fresh, antiseptic, anti-oxidation. Experiments showed that Kojic acid could inhibit the conversion of Sodium Nitrite into carcinogenic nitrosamines in bacon, and the addition of Kojic acid to food did not affect the taste, aroma and texture of food Kojic acid is also the raw material of Maltol and ethyl maltol. It is widely used in food processing.
Notes 1. Kojic acid is not stable to light, heat and metal ions. Don't add it at high temperature. Control the content of iron and other metal ions in the system.
2. It is best to add appropriate complexing agents such as EDTA and antioxidants such as sodium sulfite. 3. Recommended dosage: 0.5 ~ 2.0% Skin whitening
